Tony Jacklin CBE

Tony Jacklin CBE is without doubt one of greatest golfers the world has ever seen.

In the late 1960’s Tony Jacklin was a bright new face of the British golf game and he soon became the first Briton to win on the PGA Tour when he picked up the Jacksonville Open title in 1968. The following year, Tony travelled to Royal Lytham for the renowned Open. After two rounds, Tony trailed Bob Charles by three shots but he maintained his place at the top of the leader-board by shooting a steady 70 in round 3. Tony started his final round, with the title in sight. A perfect final round of 72 secured the Open Championship title for Tony, with his victory sparking a revival of interest in the game among youngsters across the country, launching a new generation of future champions in the game.

Tony’s career highlights include winning the US Open in 1970, securing 22 European Tour victories and winning 2 US PGA events, in addition to being inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2002, receiving the PGA Recognition Award in 2008, being awarded Order of the British Empire 1970 and being awarded Commander of the British Empire 1990.
