Making his debut for the England national team in 2001, Lewis had already impressed on the youth squads and instantly gained recognition for his dominating play in the seniors. From the Six Nations, two of which in 2001 and 2002 he won, to the British & Irish Lions tours, Moody was repeatedly the first choice for England, utilising the team’s goal of winning to drive his personal performances. In 2003, he played an integral role for the side who brought home the Rugby World Cup and maintained his form through to the finals of the same competition in 2007, a reliable and consistent player.
Between 2001 and 2011, Moody racked up an honourable 71 caps for his country and ensured his place in the sport’s history with his achievements. The youngest player in a league game, Moody enjoyed an equally prominent club career, spent mostly with Leicester Tigers. Throughout his career, Moody suffered countless injuries, a danger of the sport, and the position he played.
However, living up the mad dog name he’d garnered, Moody overcame each obstacle, coming back stronger each time, and continuing to throw himself into gameplay, despite the potential for injury. Not one to put up his feet in retirement, Moody has been dedicated to philanthropy since founding The Lewis Moody Foundation for brain tumor awareness in 2014. Continuing his passion for sports, he also founded Maddog Sport ltd in 2015, and as the Chairman, works with education to develop individuals using the foundation of rugby.
